My writing career has had some ups and many downs. For years I have had way too many long periods of not writing that I’ve started doubting my capabilities and dreams. Recently I pictured different routes for my life and only one will make me happy. It’s been a long road getting to this point and there’s a lot more traveling I have to do to get to where I want to be.
I read a book once, during one of those dry spells, and one thing the author wrote has really stuck with me and now I will use it to push me forward:
You just remember to keep writing. You must keep writing. It will keep you free.
– Sandra Cisneros (The House on Mango Street)
I’m often feeling trapped in reality. And after I read that I remembered how I got through some rough days in high school. What Sandra Cisneros wrote couldn’t be more true.
This blog used to be about sharing inspiration and lessons I have learned. But now I’m turning it into a sort of portfolio. I can’t guarantee how often I will post. Nor can I guarantee a specific genre or form. Sometimes I’ll share a poem. Other times I’ll share a short story or an excerpt from a bigger project. But the goal is to keep writing. And this time, I’ll never let it go.
